In today’s dynamic environment, airlines need an IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) that focuses on safety risks, specific to the auditee, rather than applying a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Risk-based IOSA delivers an audit scope that will be tailored for each airline. Furthermore, the new approach introduces a maturity assessment of the airline's safety-critical systems and programs. Focusing on pertinent safety risks, while maintaining a baseline of safety, Risk-based IOSA increases the effectiveness of the audit and contributes to the overall industry goal of reducing the accident rate.

As a key foundational element of  the IOSA program the IOSA Standards Manual (ISM) contains the IOSA standards, recommended practices (ISARPs), and associated guidance material, which make up the assessment criteria for the IOSA Audit, and that is used by operators to successfully prepare for an audit.

The ISM is designed to assist operators in creating accuracy and operational efficiencies in preparing and conducting ongoing safe operations, based on the IOSA standard. The ISM is available in two formats for ease of use and integration.

IOSA Standards Manual formats:

  1. Digital Format through the IATA Bookshelf
  2. XML Data File format further described below under License Agreement

IOSA XML and IOSA XML X-REF

IOSA XML is available in two modules to facilitate integration with operators systems.

The two modules are designed for:

  • Air Operators - IOSA members & non-IOSA members preparing for IOSA Audit
  • Audit, Safety Management and Content Management Software providers

Please see the differences between both modules below:

IOSA XML MODULE IOSA XML X-Ref MODULE

For airlines this XML format delivers the ISM in a complete XML environment through establishing a license agreement with IATA.
This format is then integrated into audit management, safety management (SMS), and content management software through your third-party software provider.

For third party software providers establishing a relationship with IATA, it allows your organization to extend services for greater customer satisfaction and to differentiate your product offering to the marketplace.

How IOSA XML Module helps your operations:

  • Improves efficiencies and accuracy in integration of the IOSA Standards and Recommended Practices (ISARPs) into your operational software.
  • Reduces enormous manual integration efforts of the ISM ISARPs. By default this reduces operational costs in following updates or temporary revisions of the ISARPs.

For airlines this X-Ref Module XML format provides an integrated efficient approach to cross-referencing the airworthiness regulations (FAA, EASA, ICAO) referenced within the ISM ISARPs. This format is provided under license agreement that is complimentary to the IOSA XML and refers to the relevant effective ISM edition at the time.

For third-party software providers establishing a relationship with IATA, it allows your organization to extend services for greater customer satisfaction and to differentiate your product offering to the marketplace.

How IOSA XML X-Ref Module helps your operations:

  • Improves efficiencies and accuracy in cross reference regulations to the very latest version.
  • Reduces enormous manual search efforts of the regulations found within the ISM ISARPs.
  • By default, this reduces operational costs.
